Nashville Again?

I was on the phone the other day with my Dad and we got to talking about running. He told me that he thinks that he wants to do the Nashville 1/2 marathon next year!! He used to run all the time but stopped after having a knee injury which led to surgery. (Something like that anyhow.) He tells me that he is seriously considering it and asks for my running "expertise". haha. I gave him a few pointers and then we said our goodbyes.

Later on that day, I receive a message from him saying that he is definitely going to start training and even went out to buy a new pair of running shoes!! How cool is that? I am just so proud of him for wanting to take on a such a challenge. He will have so many rewards from running, both mentally and physically. I told him that if he wanted to do the Nashville race then I would be more than happy to do it with him to provide him with any support he may need. I might even let him finish before me. ;-)

Being the competitive person that my Dad is, I wonder if I can get him to train for a sub 2-hour race?? hmmm........

Time for myself

Saying that I never have time for myself is somewhat misleading. Almost every day of the week I wake up around 5:30am, or hit the snooze until 6, to start my day off with a swim, bike, or a run (depending on that days workout). During most of those times, I am by myself. But it's not what you would call a relaxing time for yourself. Sometimes I just want to be able to sit at my computer and read online articles, pay my bills, analyze my workout stats, blog, peruse current eBay items (haha), you know, the fun stuff. But I never really get a chance for that.

Today I decided to do something different. :-)

First of all, I didn't hit snooze as many times as I usually do. I arrived at the Blacksburg Aquatic Center earlier than normal. I was showered and ready for the day by 7:30, which by most days is a miracle. Normally that time is around 8:30. So today, I thought I would *treat* myself to breakfast at Our Daily Bread while reading my morning batch of emails.

I noticed last week that the bakery boasted about having wireless internet. I thought that it would be a great idea to come in and have a cup of coffee while going through the normal morning procedures. And so far, it has been an awesome experience.

The very friendly baker made me an egg sandwich on their freshly made non-fat, whole wheat bread. (Whether not it's truly non-fat, is beyond me.) The lady made my sandwich without hesitation and poured my cup of coffee. I also purchased a small piece of their Lemon Almond Biscotti....I highly recommend this!! So I have been sitting at one of their oversized booths and have been catered to from the moment I have stepped through the door. I wish that I could afford this experience every day.

If you are ever in need of a great place to have your morning coffee and/or breakfast, I definitely recommend Our Daily Bread.

Long Time No Write

I guess I can believe that I haven't posted anything for 3 weeks now. Things have been a little crazy these days....imagine that. So anyhow I think I will just make this one the highlight edition. ;-)

(no particular order, of course!)

- Nell-Marie (my office-mate) gave birth to a beautiful baby boy (William Daniel Colman) on Wednesday, June 7th! yay!!

- Jesse and Shaun finally tied the knot yesterday...wahoo! The wedding was beautiful!!

- My friend/running partner, Jil, finished her first marathon! AWESOME job! Maybe she will blog about it soon!! ;-)

- My friend/co-worker/running partner Marisa got engaged! Maybe I will buy her a wedding planning book. (lol, jk Marisa!! I know the three you already have will be good enough!)

- Helped out with a community yard sale where the proceeds went to Baby Ian

- My aunt Barbara got (re-)married and a gorgeous wedding (apparently this was her first in a church, even a wedding dress...lol)

- Watched Jordan successfully ride her bike for the first time that her uncle Brian got her for her 3rd birthday. It only took a year and half, and yes the kind with training wheels. haha!

- Met my running coach Jim for the first time since I hired him in April. What a great experience!

- I am learning how to swim "properly" for my race, thanks to the help of Jim.

- Got a road bike for my race thanks to the kindness of my strength/spin teacher at TWC.

- Decided that it would be a great idea to compete in a triathlon. Yeah, I know, it's next month....maybe I am not so bright after all. ;-)

- Also thinking that running the Draper Mile and the Army 10-miler will be great ideas too.

- I ran my fastest 400m this year, 1:31 (sweet!!)

- Went whitewater rafting for the first time ever.....what a rush! I don't think I will be going back soon though, maybe in a year. haha!

- Experienced great improvements with our billing system! Thanks guys...you know who you are. :-)

- Learned from my husband's blog that he has already met some of his 2006 goals....hmmm....maybe we'll work on the communication piece of our relationship! haha.

- Watched Drew roll over for the first time...perhaps trying to reach for more food as he is getting so big now!

- Watched Jordan complete her first level of Kindergym at gymnastics. She's going to be the next Mary Lou Retton!!......ok, maybe not.

- Last, but not least, fiddled with my blog template....I started this a while back and actually forgot that I wasn't finished. haha...I do apologize for the mess, maybe I will get back to it before my next post.

I think that's it for now, however, if you feel that you should have made the "highlight edition" please let me know! (For a small fee I can make up anything!)

Coming up soon - bridesmaid dress fitting, girls spa night and Tracy's (first) bridal shower. Fun Times!!
